Viethouse
Viethouse – I came here with my family on the recommendation from a friend. He boasted how it’s one of the best places for tasty Vietnamese food. The reviews were also pretty high as well so I decided to give it a shot. We ordered a few items – Spring rolls, Banh Mi – pork, Spicy Hue Lemon Grass Beef Pho, House Special Fried Rice, and Camerialized Pork Belly. First impression – although it wasn’t very busy on the Sunday afternoon, the service appears to be a little slow, but then again it could be that there is only one chef working on the food and there was 5 of us. Presentation wise – it was colorful and simple plating and portion wise it was generous. However once we all tried our own individual items, it didn’t wow us at all. We were also confused on the how the food was described and presented – ie. the House Special Fried Rice – we got the impression that the meats were going to be large sliced portions instead of small mince meat that is like any typical Canton style fried rice. The Camerialized Pork Belly had way more rice than anything else, and the sauce used for the marinate didn’t seem to have much depth. We noticed that portions are generous due to the fact they put more carbs and not as much meat to justify their pricing. Overall the taste didn’t blow me away at all. I was disappointed with the food since I think I got an overall idea of how the food from the number of dishes I tried. I would much prefer going to BaLe for the better tasting Banh Mi and a mom and pop shop Pho restaurant to get my Pho cravings. Cafe De Nang is still one of fave. If you wanted to compare – I would pay more for Anh and Chi for a more higher end style of Vietnamese food.
