Gotham – Vancouver
Gotham Steakhouse – From what I can gather – Gotham is one of the top 3 steakhouse in Vancouver. The top three would be Hy’s, Gotham and Elise. I have only been to two of the three. I prefer Gotham over Hy’s even though they are the same sister company. It was a nice surprise when one of my dearest friends took me out to celebrate my birthday super early since I tend to get super suspicious when they try to celebrate my birthday. For this meal we went all out. We ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers, sides, main and desserts! I have been to Gotham a few times, and everytime I have went, it was always delicious. We started off with the bone marrow. It was very rich but full of flavour. You can tell it was broiled and prepared ahead of time to ensure the taste and texture was brought out. It was very aromatic. I was very thankful that they had prepared lemon wedges and abundance of bread to spread it. The richness is too much on it’s own so the lemon and bread provides that balance. I would suggest to sprinkle some of their specialty salt blend they had as well since the marrow is subtle aromatic – the salt will enhance that flavour.
My friend wanted to come to Gothams for the tomahawk steak. I have only tried a tomahawk steak once in Glowbal’s and once at home when we prepared it from Costco. I recall the tomahawk at Glowbal was extremely large and was very tasty. We opted to order that since it’s a lot of meat for one person. When it arrived – the size was gianormous. The preparation and display was impressive and entertaining to watch. The server will bring it out to have you take a photo with it – afterwards they will have it cut into pieces for you at your table. Once it’s been plated – I was shocked at how much meat there was. It can easily feed 4 people. Amongst the two of us with the wine, sides and appetizers – we barely made a dent on the steak. As for the taste – There is certain part of steak was more tender and juicy compared to others. I enjoyed the experience but because there was a variety of different tenderness and taste from the cut – I can’t say it was the most tastiest steak I’ve ever tasted. There was some parts more chewy but more flavourful due to the cut but other parts was more tender but the flavours didn’t stand out as much so it left my taste palate confused since I was going back and forth on trying to enjoy and being slightly disappointed on the cut and flavour since there is less marbling on certain parts.
Overall – I thought the entire experience and the food was exceptional. However, I think I’ll stick to my porterhouse and any tenderloin choices. I’ll definitely have to try Elise to determine who reigns on top for me.
