41 Noodle & Rice Pot House
41 Noodle & Rice Pot House – A true Cantonese comfort food is the clay pot rice. It’s something of a staple to have in Hong Kong or Guong Dong. The simplicity of the dish of having your toppings like preserved sausages and meats, veggies and house made sauce is the best combo to have during the Fall and Winter season! The portion of how the rice is cooked to absorbed and infuse all the topping flavours and mixed it together with the sauce is an amazing harmony of sweet and savory dance of tastebud. What makes the claypot rice exceptional is the bottom of the bowl where the rice harden into a crispy crackling which I personally find it to be my favourite part of the meal. However, it’s pretty challenging to find a tasty rice claypot meal here in Vancouver since it’s hard to get the rice to cook right to get the crackling on the bottom. The search for one in Vancouver has been a very long and patience journey. Introducing 41 Noodle & Rice Pot House – the location isn’t some place I would have thought to open up due to the demographic in the area. However, the reviews on this place is pretty solid. So we decide to give it a try. First impression? It’s the closest thing in nostalgic taste to being in HK. The rice is cooked very well that there is a slight crackling that I was very hopeful for and the rice was fluffy and flavourful. I can tell the quality of the toppings makes a huge difference in making sure the rice is tasty. I had order the preserved sausage with spare ribs and extra veggies. Although the claypot isn’t the typical claypot with the handle but it’s still using a ceramic pot to make the rice piping hot. It’s pretty authentic with you adding your own sauce on top based on how much sauce you want to mix. I really enjoyed how the sauce isn’t over sweet or salty to overpower all the steamed and marinated toppings on top. I give it a thumbs up for this place if you’re craving for some Canton comfort food!
