New Mandarin Seafood Restaurant
New Mandarin Seafood Restaurant – I really hope Canton Dim Sum will continue to thrive as it’s become such a staple in the Vancouver food scene. It’s something I have grew up and a place to gather with family and friends together. I recall how we would have little trolley carts of steamed dishes being pushed by middle age ladies going to each table and asking if we wanted any of the dishes being served from the trolley. It was always packed and heavy traffic get through to your table but it was always so lively and fun to see what’s available. At times, there would be line ups of certain dishes that every table is eyeing. One of my favourite dishes is the fresh egg tarts and the pan fried radish cakes. I always look forward to that along with some chrysanthemum tea. I noticed over the years, Canton Seafood Restaurants that serve dim sum have really elevated their dishes to be more luxurious and along with renovations to match with it. The idea of Dim Sum being reasonable priced rarely exist; gone with the food being pushed out by trolley and coming up the ladies to grab what you want. Now, you order what you want and it gets brought over to your table. The simplistic staple dishes have evolved into more exquisite and luxury items which comes with a larger price tag. New Mandarin Seafood Restaurant is no exception following the trend of serving up high end Dim Sum. The items provided are amazingly fresh and takes a twist on the staples dishes to more high end ingredients like truffle oil, xo sauces, caviar eggs, lobster meats, scallops etc. Each item that was ordered was beautifully presented and done well. One of the things I loved was their coconut dessert which was molded into three pigs. The dessert was the right amount of sweetness and creaminess but I will say the gelatin was a little stiff but it’s the only way to retain the shape of the pig. Overall the dishes were delicious and fun to eat, but do expect a pretty price tag when you order. For two people can you easily spend around $80-$100 on dimsum depending on what you order. That amount is equal to a dinner meal and a nice glass of wine. So if you do go, be prepared to pay out!
