Chez Christophe
Chez Christophe – If I’m craving for a good croissant but can’t make it to the other side of Vancouver to purchase one from Thomas Haas, then Chez Christophe would be the place to get my fix! This place has some delectable baked goods and desserts that are such a nice treat to bring to family and friends. I’m not a big chocolate fan so I haven’t tried their hand crafted chocolates, but I have purchased their butter croissant, pain au chocolat and double baked almond croissants. These three are usually my go when I want a good French pastry. I have also tried a few of their cakes. For this review, I’m writing about their Sunny’s Matcha. I’m all about light fresh cakes. This one was a surprise for me to taste since Matcha is usually a Japanese ingredient which is an association you would have with French baking. Since, I really like Matcha, I was definitely curious on how this taste. The cake itself was a combination of two distinct flavours – Matcha and Yuzu. Both of these flavours appealed to my taste palate very much so. The earthy flavour of Matcha cake was cut down by the light sweet and tart Yuzu mousse and the white chocolate adds the extra depth of rounded sweetness to balance it all out. It was such a nice dessert to have after a heavy meal, and it complements well with a nice crisp white wine or a light roasted rice tea. If you haven’t been to this bakery, you won’t be disappointed! Give it a go and see which one you like.
