Pearl Castle – Continental Plaza
Pearl Castle – Continental Plaza – One of the longest standing Taiwanese cafe in the lower mainland. It first established back in 1996, and since then it has expanded to 3 locations which remains very manageable with consistent quality time after time. My preferred location is still the first establishment located in the Continental Plaza. Lately, Pearl Castle has been making some headline social media wave in which they had follow the social trend of supersize signature dishes. The cafe made their signature beef noodle soup and provided the option to select the “giant” size. It has approximately 4X the number of noodles, 3.5X the broth and 3X the amount of beef!!! 10% of sales from The Beef Noodle Colossal benefit the Canadian Blood Services and the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. This dish is only available at the Continental location. Seeing so many posting of this dish, I had to try it out myself! I’ve tried their noodle soup before, and I have to say, it’s one of the better ones I’ve eaten and it’s always been consistent which is why it’s been a favourite spot for many people. I was a little concerned whether the quality for the dish be lacking since at times when you create something so big, you can lose some flavour or the beef might be off. That day when I had ordered the bowl, I made sure to have 2 other hungry and large appetite people with me to take on this challenge. The bowl was huge – bigger than the size of my head. The large chopsticks and the large wooden spoon definitely emphasize how big the dish was! Once I dug into the first bite of beef and tried the soup – I was giddy to know the quality remained the same. The noodles were nice and chewy and not soggy. The beef were good bite size and with a texture combo of chewy and tender. Though, I prefer a more fatty ratio so it would be much more tender when you bite into it. Lastly, the soup was on point; not the least bit lacking in flavour. However, I always like to enhance and kick it up a notch. I love adding chili oil to make it more fragrant. The oil keeps me coming back for more soup when I combine it together!!! Overall, it’s a great meal to share amongst friends and I think it’s a great marketing tactic for them. Try it for yourself and make sure to go there with an empty stomach. Plus, you can never go wrong with their bubble tea as well.
