Eggspectation
Eggspectation – I’ve driven by this place when I cross the highway. I’m a big eggs fan so I was curious whether it was good or not. I also didn’t check the reviews of this place before I went since I was hoping it would be as good as Yolks. Keep in mind that I’ve never tried or been to the Yolk’s location but there was tons of hype and positive reviews of that place. Secondly, because of distance and waiting in line part didn’t really appeal to me. However, one day, I’ll have to go and check it out. The place is located in Richmond’s concentrated hotel area. The decor is very bright and it definitely reminded me of a tiled while clean kitchen feel. The place was fairly quiet due to the fact it was a weekday and there was still heavy snow. Looking at price point – it’s fairly standard pricing for many breakfast joints. One of my all favourite ways of having eggs is a eggs benedict. I love the slightly runny yolk that blends so well with a toasted english muffin or some sort of sourdough bread. Plating was nice and the size of the dish was fairly generous. I had ordered the Bravacado benny which is half an avocado with spiced tomato sauce and cheese with their potatoes. The benny was nicely done and right consistency and it paired really nicely with the spiced sauce and avocado. Their signature hollandaise sauce was clearly different and unique flavour which I enjoyed immensely. The sauce wasn’t too rich but it had a nice light kick and somewhat buttery and a hint of mustard taste was very nice. The fruits were a nice add to cut down on the benny. However their potatoes were a little overdone and slightly cold as if they were just reheated. So I wasn’t too impressed with it. As for price point – it’s not bad but I think when you pay for anything with avocado – it tends to hype the price up. Overall, I did enjoy the meal and the types of egg dishes they have for day, evening and desserts are quite vast so I would come back and try out the rest of the menu to see what else is good.
