One Cake Boutique – Richmond
One Cake Boutique – I checked out this little fancy cake shop located in Richmond for a little mother and daughter’s afternoon. My sister brought us to try out the cakes. One Cake has been making a splash on social media for the delicate and ornate presentation. They only specialize in making Japanese delicate chiffon cakes. The space is very classy with a simple high tea feel. The flavours range from Red bean Matcha, Sesame, Mango, Rose, Chestnut, Rose and Lychee, Strawberry to name a few. To go with the cakes, the shop also have a small list of tea to pair with them. My mom, sister and I had decided on the red bean matcha, strawberry and the signature rose and lychee cakes. The flavour of red bean in the matcha was muted so all I tasted was matcha – yet I felt the taste of Matcha wasn’t very strong – only a hint of matcha. I tasted more cream than the actual flavours. The strawberry shortcake was very pretty which you can see the actual strawberries in the layer. Like the Matcha – the strawberry cake was more muted than the Matcha one. I’m guessing due to the fact that the strawberries that were shipped here aren’t naturally sweet – nor did they want to add any sweetner to enhance the flavour as the cake and the cream itself was sufficient. Lastly, the signature Rose and Lychee cake is definitely what attracts people to come. This unique flavour combination works seamlessly together. The fragrance of the rose paired with the unique sweetness from the lychee provides the right amount of flavour to make it memorable for me. After trying out all three flavours, I’m going to assume that the cake itself provides the nice soft and fluffiness texture with a light subtle flavour. The layers of the intended flavour filling is what will distinguish one cake from another which is why one flavour may be more prominent than others. I would like to try other flavours and compare to see if that assumption is true. As for price point – it’s on the high price for the size. It’s comparable on the style, and lightness to the crepe cakes like Lotus Boutique which is one of favourite places to go to. I think it’s a place to check it out with a girlfriend or get the entire cake for a special occasion. It’s a nice treat to have from time to time.
