Di Beppe Restaurant
Di Beppe Restaurant – A rustic and warm family Italian restaurant at the edge of Gastown. The place is split between two areas. Dine in restaurant and a space for a cafe. Ordered the carbonara – guanciale, pecorino, egg yolk & black pepper for lunch. I was very surprised at the price for lunch. I was expecting this type of pricing for dinner. For lunch, it is a little steep – so if you’re more price conscious, I would come here for dinner and get the full dine in experience. Since I was there for lunch, I was seated in the cafe so the dine service was lacking for the price. As for the dish itself – the noodle was thick but it soaked up the sauce well. The bacon reminded me of pork belly with a bite of fat that meld well with the light fragrant cheese. The fresh black pepper was a great complement to the egg mixture with the olive oil and cheese. Although it did get heavy at the end since the fat from the meat and the olive oil made it slightly too oily. It’s the first time I had carbonara like this. Although it was heavy, I did enjoy it very much. It was different and it wasn’t something you find in many Italian restaurants.
